impossible elevators
(written 30 August 2005)
The path you take from the emergency room to the doctors' clinics is paved with stones arranged and painted to look like leaves and flowers and whole plants.
You think about this while you wait for the elevators (two of three, because the middle one doesn't stop on your doctor's floor) to open. They don't for a while, and when the left one does, it is already full of bodies sick and visiting the sick. And then when the right one opens the arrow says it's not going up but down.
And so you smile and wait for the next and think about the leaf and flower and whole plant patterns and ponder how technology apparently still has not solved the problem of overpopulation and impossible elevators.
